My first experience with hands on care giving began when my mother had Alzheimer's and Dementia with Lewey Bodies. During the last year and a half of her life I helped my parents meet the challenges and demands of her care and the management of their home. This included arranging the complete move-out and re-location of my parents to a downsized home in Springfield, arranging and overseeing all of my mother's care from medical evaluations, in-home care giving assistance, hospice visits, medical appointments and then on to the final transition to Elder Health & Living for the last two months of her life.
I handled my mother's medications and cared for her and my father in all aspects of their home care, hygiene, cooking, and companionship activities. In addition to being my parents' health advocate, I also handled the long term health insurance account for my mother and the correspondence with the insurance company. I learned a lot about Alzheimer's and dementia related behaviors when my mother was ill, and I am fully capable of carrying out the responsibilities of a competent and experienced caregiver.
Why Holistic Home Care Services?
It was during my mother's illness that I realized I was well suited to the role of companion caregiver and home management assistant. I decided then that it was something I wanted to do in the future to help others. There's nothing more satisfying than helping people when they are in need, especially during the periods of their life when they are no longer able to handle everything on their own.
In 2014 it felt like the right time for me to make a change and to start Holistic Home Care Services. I needed to serve others in a way that felt more creative and personal, so it makes perfect sense to apply the experiences and skills I've accumulated over my lifetime in this field.
The Meaning of Holistic Home Care
Holistic in the context of Home Care Services implies that all the parts are interrelated and make up the whole. When it comes to our home life, relationships, and health, we all feel better when each of these areas feel balanced and harmonious. This isn't always easy, especially when our health is suffering, or we are unable to keep up with the demands of our home or work life. Sometimes, a little help from others is all we need to make things flow a little smoother and bring us some relief, and a professional caregiver or home management assistant may be the answer.
If you are looking for an independent companion caregiver or home aide for yourself or a family member I hope you will give me the opportunity to talk with you to hear about your needs. If I am not able to help, I would be happy to refer you to other individuals who may be better suited for your particular needs.
